parallel 平行な、並行に

日本語でも「パラレル」は日常的に使われる言葉ですが、

英英辞典を確認して改めて認識したことがありますので、忘れないように書いておきます。

parallel to (with) の場合は、

two lines, paths etc that are parallel to each other are the same distance apart along their whole length (Longman)

two or more lines that run parallel to each other are the same distance apart at every point (Oxford)

とあるように、物と物との位置関係を説明するときのことを意図します。

in parallel with somebody/something　の場合は、

together with and at the same time as something else (Longman)

with and at the same time as something/somebody else (Oxford)

ですので、並行して作業するときのことを意図します。

日常的に、使いますね。パラ(レル)で進めようとか。

一般の文書では、これらを混同してしまっているものも多数みられますが、

テクニカルライティングでは、正しく区別して書きたいところです。
